The good thing about our modern era is that technology like Google Street View lets me be places where I otherwise cannot be. Or at least lets me feel like I am there. Here is where I actually am (though picture is three years outdated, and the building is now yellow and sans graffiti and there’s snow on the ground):

Relatedly, I hear it’s creepily warm in the States. Rest assured, it is normal February freezing temperatures here. I am off now to open a bank account and buy a prepaid phone.

WORD TO THE WISE: even if you’re off contract and successfully manage to jailbreak your 5.0.1 iphone, it will NOT unlock even with ultrasn0w and Sam configured if your model firmware is 05.16.05. So don’t waste three days trying to do it! Ugh.

If you’ve been coming to the site in the past few days, you might have noticed the site either redirected to some phishy malware page or didn’t load at all. Hello, hackers! Thanks for screwing up my blog! I recommend you all run out and backup your MySql databases and review your FTP file/folder permissions and change all your passwords and Secret_Auth keys. You’re welcome.

Fortunately, I have seem to have fixed the blog, although its design is different now. Meanwhile, some purposely vague life updates, in no particular order:

I leave for Germany in 5 weeks

I am completely unprepared for this

The paperwork it requires is more daunting than, well, other things that require equal amounts of paperwork and should be equally daunting to me right now

I’m trying not to feel really overwhelmed

New York City is great

Merry Christmas

I’m reposting this (slightly re-edited) video that I shot during my first visit to Brooklyn this month; on the second visit I wasn’t able to bring the camera, sadly, and only shot one clip with my iphone (which I included here so A. wouldn’t feel left out, and because I know how much he loves being on camera). So I just wanted to play around with the newish camera, but wish I’d shot more. Settings were AVCHD 1080i60, mts converted via Pavtube to mov and imported to fcp. Clearly I didn’t get very much. But there is potential to make decent-looking short films, provided I remember to change the ISO.

And so, Steve jobs has passed. It is sad, and it was amazing what he was able to do in his career. He blazed the trail for beautiful, functional design, amazing and streamlined devices.

However, nobody’s perfect. Did you know he has a 33-year-old so-called “illegitimate” daughter whom he initially didn’t acknowledge, and who grew up with her mother and really struggled but ended up ok and went to a top school in Boston and became a writer and moved to Europe? Wow, this is all sounding EERILY familiar…

I want to find her in Europe and start a company. We will be known as “The Artists Formerly Known As Illegitimate” and our corporate logo will be something like a fist in the area with some ovaries in the background. Bring it!
