Interview with Andy Warhol (about films) by a teenager.
How did you get started making movies? “Uh…I don’t know.”
I feel like we’re slipping back into an earlier era, but worse than earlier because now the anti-female sentiment in our culture (not just culture; world) is insidious, toxic but without the scent of poison — “O man of God, there is death in the pot!” — because now we’re supposed to have an amendment in the Constitution.
The 1960s burned our bras, the 1980s gave us shoulder pads so we can look like rival linebackers, the 1990s permed our hair and let us make coy retorts to men on television. But we still get paid less and we still allow old men to pass laws about our bodies. We’re finally allowed to have babies AND work (actually we’re expected to have babies AND work), but we’re not allowed to have paid parental leave. You can’t have it all, ladies! And you certainly can’t have a career in technology or film or science.
This clip highlights some interesting stats, and it’s backed by a song from Dar Williams, who once signed “subvert the dominant paradigm” on my Converse All-Stars in 1997.
Kishi Bashi, “Bright Whites” – you can download the track. Soundcloud didn’t hire me, but I still love them.
A very happy birthday and third decade to the illustrious Mister Das!
My esteemed associate F. has alerted me to the existence (and European tour) of Sharon Van Etten. She comes to Berlin in five days, and I think I might go hear her. Check it.
Props to my friend Haniya (in green) for this latest conquest:
A huge chunk of YT videos are “unable to be played in Germany” because of, I don’t know, dumb telecommunications laws. I had an 80s yearning so I started watching interviews (the ones I could legally watch) with the stars of 1984′s The Goonies. It just makes me more committed to becoming a coming-of-age director. What kind of actor do you want to be? A rich one.
