This article tells the story of Jada Williams, a bright 13-year-old who entered and won an essay in a contest that compared the poor education she was receiving in Rochester (by white teachers in the public school system) to the repression Frederick Douglass experienced in his own quest for education. She was subsequently driven from the school, and is now being home-schooled.
